Bill McCrossen • Bassist
For the past 30 years, Bill McCrossen has been and continues to be one of the most in-demand bass players on the New York area scene. Equally at home on the double bass and electric bass guitar, he has performed with orchestras and Broadway musicals, as well as working extensively in the studio recording for television productions, commercials, and many talented local artists.
Bill's interests and influences range from 20th century 12 tone serial music to psychedelic acid rock -
from ancient African ceremonial dance music to Brazilian and Cuban styles - from Baroque to Bebop.
But Bill's favorite thing is to combine all these elements together when performing in a free improv setting, or over favorite jazz standards with one of the many different world class groups he plays with -
all to create a mind-bending excursion through the bottom line.
He credits his versatility to having the honor of studying with some of the greatest bassists on the planet, including his favorites Dave Holland and Michael Moore.
In addition to performing and recording his original compositions [ a quixotic swirl of free improvisation over a framework inspired by Edgar Varese and Thelonious Monk ] , over the years Bill has had the pleasure of performing with some of his favorite world class musicians, including:
guitarist Gene Bertoncini, jazz vocalist extraordinaire Marguerite Juenemann, Downbeat poll winner
Ray Anderson, trombonist, trumpet legends Clark Terry and Randy Brecker, saxophonist Michael Brecker, and one of the greatest improvisers and composers of any period, pianist Art Lande.
Bill can also be currently found recording the jazz and blues background soundtrack for Bill Cosby's
animated children's program, " The Little Bill Show", which airs on Nickelodeon & CBS. Bill is very excited to be a part of this incredible group of talented friends that call themselves : INNERrOUTe
